Mateo and Matos - The Final Cut EP

Mateo & Matos have proven time and again they've got musical spirits like few others in the house scene. In the summer of '85 (believe it or not) John Mateo was spinning whole sets over the airwaves of his CB radio. It was through this self-produced show that Eddie Matos first made contact with John Mateo. They became friends quickly and partners soon after. They have been inspired by listening to Larry Levan, Tony Humphries, Shep Pettibone and Little Louie Vega. From '86 through '89, Mateo & Matos performed at a staggering number of club festivals and old school block parties in the tri-state area of New York. In late 89 they started producing and have released numerous E.P.s and singles from then until now on many record labels throughout the world. They've since torn up dance floors spinning in over thirty countries. You can find their unique New York soulful sound in dozens of original productions and remixes on record labels such as King Street, Defected, Nervous, Large and Glasgow Underground. If spirituality and soul in house music is what you seek, Mateo & Matos provide it. They're one of club-land's most enduring and well-known house DJ and production partnerships.

Speedy's Anthem

I Couldn't find an official pic anywhere of the 12" or heck a CD. It's been discontinued last time I heard years ago. Anyway, this "Latin House" single is from radio personality Speedy from radio broadcasting in New York's KTU and La Mega. This single wasn't really a hit maker. Nor I thought at the time it was done seriously. But many people were feeling it at the time of it's release. I can't stand hearing it. But it was "aight" way back when. Lol. I'm sure when you listen to it you'll know from where they sampled it from. The "I Need Some Speeeeed-y" version doesn't sound it would be part of the single. Probably the best out of the three. I still have both 12"'s. One given to me for free after I had already bought one, lol. Enjoy:

India- Breaking Night

India —better known as La India in the latin music industry— was born 9 March 1970 as Linda Viera Caballero in Río Piedras, Puerto Rica, but raised in the Bronx, New York City, USA.

Worked as backing vocalist on latin-freestyle artists TKA's track "Come Get My Love" (1986), even featuring on its back cover, when she was 14. Then under the tutelage of producer John "Jellybean" Benitez on a couple of tracks including her track "Dancing On The Fire" (1988) (with co-producer Louie Vega who she had been introduced to in her mid-teens, and would later go on to marry in 1990, though divorce in 1996).

Signing briefly for Reprise Records, who supposedly planned on making her the Latin version of Madonna —Jellbean's other main find earlier in his career— where both Jellybean and Louie Vega produced her album "Breaking Night" (1990).

However, it wasn't until her major involvment in the music business working with Louie Vega and Kenny "Dope" Gonzalez on various projects mainly in the mid-1990's whilst in her twenties, for which she acheived great success. The three tracks of note during this time were as Masters At Work with "I Can't Get No Sleep" (1993), and "To Be In Love" (1997), along with their Nuyorican Soul project track "Runaway" (1997).

Alongside work on latin-house music into the early 2000's, she also became more involved in the more purist latin arena around the late 1990's, and infact on these projects the name La India was generally used.

Whilst moving her career and concentratation into latin music, she built quite a reputation as 'The Princess Of Salsa' garnering three Grammy Award and two Latin Grammy Award nominations. She has collaborated with her godmother Celia Cruz, and many other artists like Marc Anthony, Gloria Estefan and even Tito Puente, releasing several albums of her own.

Vibe was born in Lisbon, Portugal, and became a DJ at 15. At this age he started to perform in clubs and before long he was playing side by side with big names of the dance scene like Paul Oakenfold, Tony Humphries, Roger Sanchez and Danny Tenaglia. However, it was his partnership with another Portuguese, Rui da Silva, that rose them to the top of the house music scene, both nationally and internationally. Together they brought life to a project, Underground Sound of Lisbon, which in the summer of 1994 launched the hit "So Get Up" featuring vocals and lyrics by Darin Pappas) released by Rob di Stefano's label, Tribal USA, reaching number 1 in the Billboard Club Chart. He has done an extensive number of remixes for DJ Jiggy, Danny Tenaglia, Kristine W and others.

In addition to DJing, Vibe co-owns Kaos Records, a record store and label in Lisbon, which he founded in 1992 with entrepreneur António Cunha. Vibe has mixed a variety of compilations for Kaos Records, most notably Global Grooves. He was also involved in other projects such as LHT, NYLX, Sonic Hunters and Meco.
