Tricky Disco - Tricky Disco

Here's a Techno record that is considered Classic...I remember first hearing this on the radio when Dave Kendal had a radio show called "Planet Tracks" Anyone remember that radio show? He use to play all the latest and hottest imports from around the world. I use to lay on my bed with a paper pad and write down all thee tracks he played so that I can go to the record store and buy them. This record was one of them. This is bleep techno that was being put out on Warp Records. They have numerous bleep classics on this label which I recommend collecting also.--12inchjunkie

Armand Van Helden - Sampleslaya - Enter The Meatmarket

Here's an lp that didn't get much recognition. This is Armand Van Helden doing hip hop. He always had alot of love for the hip hop scene and music before House. His dream one day would be to produce for rappers like Jay-Z! Can you imagine a Jay-Z album produced by Armand?! That shit would sound hot to me! But for some reason Armand isn't known in the hip hop world like he's known in the Dance music world..Check out this Hip Hop Album he made mostly consisting of breaks and old school hip hop beats. I saw this album one time at Sam Goody for like $4.99! I think it wasn't getting any sales and they just wanted to get rid of it for cheap...---12inchjunkie

Inner City - Big Fun

Inner City is an American music group formed in Detroit in 1987. The group is composed of producer and composer Kevin Saunderson and Chicago native Paris Grey. Kevin Saunderson is renowned as one of the Belleville Three (along with Juan Atkins and Derrick May), high school friends who later originated the Detroit Techno sound.

Inner City topped dance charts in America and Britain 11 times, hit the UK Top 40 eight times and sold around 6 million records. The group is best known for their early dancefloor / pop music crossover tracks "Big Fun" (UK #8, US Dance #1) and "Good Life" (UK #4, US Dance #1). Other hits include "Do You Love What You Feel" (UK #16, US Dance #1) and "Whatcha Gonna Do With My Lovin'" (UK #12, US Dance #8). The music videos to these songs received significant airplay throughout the world. Later work introduced a hybrid of techno, jazz and swing beats with a more soulful sound in the vein of downtempo British groups like Soul II Soul and Massive Attack. The group recorded three albums for Virgin Records and one single for Columbia/SME Records Source: Answers.Com

Clivilles & Cole - Pride (In The Name Of Love)

In 1991, as Clivillés + Cole they released an LP single, "A" side featuring a cover of a rock song by U2 called "Pride" but most often referred to by the tag line "In the Name of Love," but it was the B-side, "Deeper Love," ironically referred to by its tag "Pride," featuring vocals by Deborah Cooper, a long time Clivillés and Cole vocalist, that proved to be a hit, peaking at number 15 in the UK. Deborah Cooper performed "Deeper Love" on Saturday Night Live for C+C Music Factory. It was also covered by Aretha Franklin with production by Clivillés + Cole.

C & C Music Factory - Robi-Rob's Boriqua Anthem

The most popular incarnation of the Clivillés & Cole collaboration was C + C Music Factory. Their 1990 album "Gonna Make You Sweat" featured many sucessful singles such as "Here We Go", "Things That Make You Go Hmmmm..." and the unforgettable "Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)", which featured vocals by Martha Wash and Freedom Williams.
The group returned in 1994, but sadly David Cole died in 1995, putting an end to the factory.

Rockell - What Are You Lookin' At

Dance pop diva Rockell was born Rachel Alexandra Mercaldo on March 4, 1977, on Long Island; discovered in a bar while singing along with a recording of "Killing Me Softly with His Song," she was brought to the attention of producer Ewart A. Wilson, Jr., who helmed her 1996 debut single, "I Fell in Love." After scoring a hit a year later with "In a Dream," Rockell issued her debut LP, What Are You Lookin' At?, in 1998. Two years later she returned with Instant Pleasure, which featured producers like Hex Hector and Tony Moran.

Music career

In the late 1990s, she had major dance hits with the songs "In A Dream," "When I'm Gone," and "Can't We Try" (a duet with Collage and remake of the Dan Hill and Vonda Shepard 1987 hit song). All of these tracks appeared on her 1998 debut album entitled What Are You Lookin' At?. She released a second album, Instant Pleasure, in 2000. Instant Pleasure included the single "What U Did 2 Me" which reached #101 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 2001. Her best charting success is in Canada, where she is still active performing shows at clubs. Her debut single "I Fell in Love" distributed by the then BMG Canada hit #1 on the Canadian Singles Chart while the follow-up mega hit "In a Dream" was at #6 and is still a dance club anthem and a favourite amongst freestyle music enthusiasts nationwide.

Chart success

In 1996, "I Fell In Love" peaked at #61 on the Billboard Hot 100 in early 1997. It hit the #1 spot on the Canadian Singles Chart singles chart during that year, making it the most successful freestyle dance music single of the decade in Canada. The single also peaked at #9 on the Hot Dance Singles Sales chart in the USA.

"In A Dream," the follow-up to "I Fell In Love," peaked at #72 on the Billboard Hot 100 in late 1997. It was #6 on the Hot 100 Canadian Singles Chart and solidified Rockell's position on the artist roster of the then BMG Music Canada. It also peaked at #13 on the Hot Dance Singles Sales chart.

"Can't We Try" with Collage peaked at #59 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1998. The single peaked at #11 on the Hot Dance Singles Sales chart.

"When I'm Gone" bubbled under the Billboard Hot 100 in 1999, whereas it made a huge smash on both the Hot Dance Airplay and Hot Dance Music/Club Play charts. It also peaked at #21 on the Hot Dance Singles Sales chart.

Rockell's lead-off single to her second album Instant Pleasure, "What U Did 2 Me," bubbled under the Billboard Hot 100 at #101; however, it was her best selling (and arguably biggest hit) single and it garnered her a music video. It fared much better on Hot Dance Airplay and Hot Dance Music/Club Play charts.

She also released "The Dance" (a cover of the Garth Brooks hit) and "Tears," but neither of these singles charted on the Hot 100. Both singles performed well on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play and Hot Dance Airplay charts. "The Dance" peaked at #27 on the Hot Dance Singles Sales chart and "Tears" peaked at #16 on the Hot Dance Singles Sales chart.

Recent times

In 2005, she came back with "L.O.V.E.", produced by DJ Mickey Bono. A limited independent release that had a trance remix by Lenny "Linus" Douglas and freestyle remixes by Russ Castella and Randy Taylor-Weber, the original writer/producer of "In a Dream". It became a modest Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart hit. It also received some dance radio airplay.

Spring 2007, saw Rockell back in the studio recording a new single, "Playing My Love." It was released to Dance/Rhythmic format radio in July 2007. A long awaited freestyle remix by Salsation 3 was released just in time for the holidays in November 2007, giving "Playing My Love" longevity through 2008. A nationwide tour with several dance artists including Joe Zangie was announced as well.

In November 2007, Rockell released a new dance single with Canada's Odeon Records, "You Keep Me Hanging On," a remake of the Supremes' original and Kim Wilde's 1987 mega hit.

Now in 2009, Rockell is back with a dance cover of Donna Summer's "On The Radio" with several remixes available. Check out her web site - www.rockell.com for the latest updates.

Sandee - Only Time Will Tell

Sandee' - performed with Menudo (featuring Ricky Martin) and The Cover Girls on a national Concert Tour. Sandee' is a native of South Florida, Sandra aka “Sandee” Casanas has always been known for embracing a Latin-influenced style of dance music. Sandee (whose name is pronounced Sahn-day) who along with another dance diva, Aléjandra aka “Alé” Lorenzo (“I Wanna Know” and “Stop Me if I Fall in Love”) and Laurie Miller, was one of the original members of the Grammy nominated all-girl trio that would later take over the charts and airwaves throughout the 90s. The original girl band, which was the brainchild of dance producer, Lewis Martinee, was called X-Posed. The name of the group would later be changed to what we all know it today as Exposé.

The name wasn’t the only thing that had changed since the group was first assembled back in 1984. Sandee recorded the original versions of “Exposed to Love” and “Point of No Return” – both of which were major club hits and the later a major radio hit. After these two singles, the then original lineup of Exposé had split up. By the time Exposé was ready to record its third single, “Come Go With Me”, an entirely new lineup was in place. This time the members of the group consisted of Ann Curless, Jeanette Jurado and Gioia Bruno.

For Exposé’s first album, “Exposure”, Martinee choose to re-record the group’s first two hits, “Point of No Return” and “Exposed to Love” - using the new lineup’s vocals. Although the original single version of “Point of No Return” had already hit the market, Sandee’s voice is no where to be heard on the group’s debut album.

Exposé and the girls of the group went on to become practically a household name. The group continued to dominate the charts and make Freestyle history with their huge crossover success.

After Sandee’s stint as one of the original members of this remarkable group, she went on to pursue a solo career with a few successes of her own. She enjoyed a club hit titled “Notice Me” – a track considered to be a classic Freestyle jam by many. “Notice Me”, ironically enough, was released on Fever Records – home of yet another very successful all-girl Freestyle trio group, The Cover Girls. Later, Sandee went on to record her solo album, “Only Time Will Tell”, which included the mega hit single "Love Desire”.

Sadly, on December 15, 2008, the music world lost a freestyle dance music icon when Sandee' passed away in Hollywood, Florida.

Raze - Bass Power (Remix)

Here's a little bio about Raze..."Spearheaded by New York multi-instrumentalist Vaughan Mason, Raze was formed in 1986 as a studio/concept group were the idea was to have a different lead singer on each song. Mason hooked up with soul singer Keith Thompson in the studio for "Break 4 Love", considered by many to be one of the best house songs ever recorded. And Thompson was only 25 years old when they recorded it in 1987! It was the group's only song that made it to urban radio, debuting on October 22, 1988 at #24 for 16 weeks. Mason would move to D.C., setting up his Grove Street Records studio."

A Tribute To Vinyl Vault Mix By BFiggy DJ

Here's A Tribute mix done by my brother BFiggy DJ, He has done a few mixes for the blog. This mix consist of 12's that we posted in the past just by the look at the track list this mix looks good. This Blog has already made a year this past August since I created it with Rob and it's still going with postings almost everyday and over 734 posts! And of course we do have our ups & downs with our blog but we still try to do our best to stay on top. I have seen blogs that opened around the same time as we did and they already shut down maybe because they lost interest with it or just didn't have the time to post on a regular basis...I actually miss those blogs and wish they would continue to post there music. I myself at times don't do alot of postings for the reasons of what I do besides the blog like DJing, Working my regualr 9-5 job, & my personal life with my Family and our Authors do the same as well. Vinyl Vault still has tons and tons of music to post, I'm always ordering old 12's that I didn't have back in the days thru discogs or ripping vinyl that I still have in milk crates. We got a few authors that does postings and that's a big help for us and it also keeps the blog going. And all of this is done with love for the music we gotten offered money to download our 12's and we told them no! If you want to give money send it to the artist or go and buy their music they deserve it. So let's keep the movement going and enjoy our postings! ---12inchjunkie, Rob, Chicagojackin, MastrChief07, benz, Summonedknight, Herk, & GGNYC
